THE EMPEROR AND HIS DAUGHTERS
There was once an old emperor who lived in an enormous, golden palace in the middle of the city, Bing Chong.
He had three beautiful daughters, but unfortunately no sons.
He really wanted his daughters to marry before he died.
He found three princes who looked very nice and handsome.
However, his daughters didn’t like them, because they were mean and selfish.
They refused to marry the princes, so the emperor became very angry and shut them in a prison.
He said they must get married as soon as they were sixteen years old.
Their birthday was in a few months time.
The three daughters ran away from the prison with the guards’ help during the night of the full moon and found work on a daily farm far from the palace.
While they were working there, they fell in love with the farmer’s sons, who were not rich but very kind and tolerant.
They happily married the sons when they were sixteen, but as soon as the emperor knew this fact, he died of a cardiac infant.
